Paul Willemburg is the DA Gauteng Shadow MEC of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation as well as a member of the Public Accounts, Members Affairs, Programming and Rules committees. Paul was appointed to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 2004, where he served as DA Whip and Spokesperson on Local Government. He is also a Branch Chairperson and Regional Executive Member of the DA.
He holds a diploma in Production Management from Damelin and an NTC 3 qualification from Cape Technikon. Prior to joining politics, he ran his own print, promotions and advertising business in the late 1980s and joined the Progressive Federal Party. This is where Brian Goodall (former MPL) became his mentor and encouraged him to become politically involved at local level.
Attracted by PFP policies, which suited his liberal tendencies, he worked for the party in Katlehong from 1987 and by the early 1990s he started the Democratic Party branch in Tokoza. Paul went on to serve two terms as a Ward Councillor for Bedfordview from 1997.
His greatest satisfaction is in helping those most in need and he and his partner of 22 years have put two underprivileged children through school.
Paul enjoys reading, music, road running and scrabble.
