Mike Moriarty is the DA Spokesperson on Finance as well as the Gauteng Provincial chair. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and an Honours BA degree in Politics from UNISA.
Prior to taking on a full-time role in politics he worked as an Engineer and Project manager in the Group 5 Construction Company. He also worked as a self-employed consultant in project management and IT.
Mike joined the Progressive Federal Party in 1989, becoming a City Councillor in 1994. In January 1997 he became leader of the DA Johannesburg caucus; a position he held till September 2008, whilst concurrently chairing the Association of DA Councillors from 2001 to 2007.
Mike is married and has a passion for community upliftment where is involved in a number of projects. His passion also extends Heritage sites in the country. He lives by the motto “do unto others as you’d have them do for you”.
He is the Caucus Chief Whip in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and has also represented the DA at the IEC since 1999.
