Kate Lorimer- DA GautengKate Lorimer is the DA Shadow MEC on Safety and Security in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Kate has been in the legislature since 2005 and was a whip in the caucus from 2010 to 2017.

She is currently the chairperson of the DA’s MPL Network, a support structure for DA Provincial Level Public Representatives and sits on the Federal Executive of the DA.

In 1995, Kate was elected as a Ward Councillor for the Fourways/Northgate area. She was a ward councillor for 10 years and at the same time a PR councillor in the Greater Johannesburg Council.

Kate currently heads up the Northwest Constituency in Johannesburg that stretches from Northriding to Roodepoort along the north western boundary of Johannesburg.

Born in Johannesburg in 1968 into a political family, Kate matriculated at Woodmead School in 1986. She has a BA degree in Criminology and English from UNISA, a Victim empowerment qualification from UNISA and a Project Management qualification from Damelin. Kate is currently studying for a Masters degree in Disaster Management at the University of the Free State.

In 1999 Kate founded a Trauma support unit which debriefed the victims of violent crime. She continued to co-ordinate this unit until 2009.

Kate is married and has a young son. Her interests include reading and singing.
