The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the launch of an investigation by the Hawks into Emfuleni officials allegedly implicated in fraud and corruption.
The Hawks have written to Emfuleni Mayor, Jacob Khawe, and the Municipal Manager requesting personal information and contact details of the following heads of departments: Head of Waste Department, Chief Financial Officer, Head of Fleet Department, Head of Corporate Service and Head of Community Services Department.
The Hawks have also requested the details of the heads of the departments who were in office from 1 January 2014 to 1 September 2018.
This is a step in the right direction in ensuring that those implicated in the corruption, irregular expenditure and maladministration which led to the collapse of Emfuleni Local Municipality are brought to book.
The DA will be closely monitoring this investigation to ensure that no stone is left unturned.
The failing ANC has been given too many second chances and collapsed municipalities across the country through corruption, which steals from people oppressed by poverty. Under a DA-led government those found to be corrupt will be jailed for 15-years.
It is now time for change that stops corruption and builds One South Africa for All.
