Ekurhuleni residents dissatisfied with municipality

Clarke-Michele1During a recent interaction with communities of Benoni, the DA was confronted with residents’ outrage over the Ekurhuleni metro’s poor service delivery record.

Resident complaints included shocking road conditions, weekly water outages, the terrible state of overgrown sidewalks and the local clinic not being adequately stocked.

Several main roads such as Atlas Road, Great North Road and Hull Street, which carry high traffic volumes, are riddled with potholes. This is a huge safety concern as many have not been repaired for over a year, despite it being reported to the municipality by the public and DA councillors alike.

Weekly water outages coupled with regular load shedding is causing many small businesses to lose income. If this carries on unchecked many people face the threat of losing their livelihood.

Service delivery in Ekurhuleni is at an all-time low with rate payers complaining that good citizenship equates to bad service from officials.

The DA calls on the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to deliver basic service instead of investing in marketing campaigns boasting a clean audit that has not resulted in visible service delivery.
