The DA in Johannesburg welcomes the special sitting of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Wednesday 18 April 2018, to honour Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
Ma Winnie, who was laid to rest this past weekend, was a great inspiration to millions of South Africans.
She made a tremendous contribution to the citizens of the City of Johannesburg, the province of Gauteng and all South Africans who were oppressed by an evil regime.
It is, therefore, befitting that she be honoured by a special sitting of the Provincial Legislature in the heart of the city she called her home.
We want to send our condolences to the Madikizela and Mandela families, to her comrades in the ANC, and to her wider family – the people of Soweto who loved, and were deeply loved, by her.
The incredible sacrifices that Ma Winnie made provide many lessons for us today.
As we reflect on her life and legacy let us remember our past and look, with hope, to our future.
May her memory help to inspire and lead us towards the progress and upliftment of all South Africans.
