DA calls on MEC Vadi to find amicable solution to Mamelodi taxi route war

June 13, 2018

by Fred Nel MPL – DA Mamelodi Constituency Head

The DA calls on Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, to urgently resolve the violent taxi route war that erupted on Tsamaya Road in Mamelodi yesterday.

See video here.

The DA has been reliably informed that ‘Amapela’- or 4+1 taxis – and local taxis in the area have been fighting over a route.

The roads have been barricaded with stones and burning tyres, blocking other motorists from using the road.

It is unacceptable that people who rely on this mode transport to commute to different destinations around the area have been left stranded.

MEC cannot drag his feet while the people suffer, therefore the DA will apply necessary pressure on the Department and MEC so that this matter can be resolved.

The DA will continue to monitor this situation as it is high time that our people are given access to safe and reliable public transport.
