As the DA’s operational leadership, we will strive to create a work environment grounded on and characterised by:

1. Dedication to the cause

This means we must:

  • Understand the DA’s cause, which is to bring about an Open Opportunity Society for All in South Africa
  • Understand the DA’s strategic objectives and strategy
  • Relate every decision to whether it will advance or retard the DA’s cause and to weather it is consistent with the DA’s strategy

2.People with complete ownership of their jobs

This means we must:

  • Care deeply about the fortunes of the party (Take it personally)
  • Be outcomes orientated, not task orientated
  • Be solutions orientated, not problems orientated
  • Display a positive, can-do attitude
  • Act accountably at all times

3. The will to win

  • Believe in our future as a party of government in SA, not simply as an opposition
  • Be animated by a competitive spirit that drives us to succeed
  • Do what it takes to win within the constraints of our values and strategy

 This means we must:

  • Always put the party’s overall interests first
  • Never get involved in internal politics
  • Be cost conscious and remember to manage party money in a manner that is beyond reproach

6. Insistence on excellence

This means we must:

  • Demand high standards of ourselves and those that report to us
  • Take a strong and visible stand against mediocrity in the DA

7. Constant innovation

This means we must:

  • Constantly think of new and better ways to achieve outcomes
  • Search for good ideas from other people and organisations
  • Always share ideas and knowledge with others
  • Have the discipline to follow good ideas through with effective implementation
